Lion's head or 'No.10' brass knocker
Product No. 1903a | A substantial door knocker of a lion's head design but otherwise known as the No.10 knocker since it was fitted to the door of No.10 Downing Street (the home of the British Prime Minister) during the rebuilding of the facade in the 18th century. This knocker (the only authentic design) have appeared in manufacturers catalogues that we have seen at least from 1835 to the present day and has become a timeless design. Brass Doctor's Knocker
Product No. 1395a | We have references to this knocker going back to at least 1832 in a brass founder's catalogue of that year. So far, however, we have not discovered why this has always been known as a Doctor's Knocker. If anyone has the answer, please let us know. What we do know, is that this classically influenced design was commonly used on plain and stylish panelled doors were its narrow shape is the only one that will fit.
